TheIndonesia.co - The Klungkung Regency Government in Bali is aiming for financial transactions at the 2025 Semarapura Festival—including from local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—to reach Rp10 billion, more than doubling the Rp4.7 billion recorded in 2024.
"We hope this festival is not just a form of entertainment but also a platform for education and appreciation of Semarapura’s rich cultural heritage," said Klungkung Regent I Made Satria during a press conference in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday, according to Antara News Agency.
Now in its seventh year, the festival is expected to strengthen cultural identity, boost tourism, encourage community involvement in preserving tradition, and improve the village economy.
The cultural event, themed around the legacy of the old town, features larger and more dynamic attractions, including the arts and traditions of Semarapura’s residents. Highlights include musical performances, local creative economy showcases, MSME exhibitions featuring crafts and cuisine, and guided tours of local tourism villages.
According to Klungkung Tourism Office Head Ni Made Sulistiawati, the festival involves around 2,100 artists and event staff. She noted that the event also serves to promote the regency’s cultural arts and tourist destinations.
"Additionally, it provides space for Klungkung’s local artists and creative MSMEs to express themselves and grow," she said.
To enhance sustainability, the festival is adopting eco-friendly practices by reducing single-use plastic and promoting the use of local materials.
The 2025 Semarapura Festival was officially opened on Monday (April 28th) by Deputy Assistant for Regional Events at Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, Reza Fahlevi, alongside Regent I Made Satria and Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya.
The event is scheduled to run through Thursday (May 1st), in front of the Ida Dewa Agung Jambe Monument, and is expected to attract around 20,000 local, domestic, and international visitors.
This year’s theme is Nayaka Maetala Udayana, which symbolizes the revival of one's homeland through wise leadership.
