TheIndonesia.co - The lawyer representing suspect Sony Sonjaya, Krisna Murti, has responded to the resignation of Nanik S. Deyang as head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

Speaking on Wednesday (22 July), Krisna said he believed Nanik's resignation was appropriate, arguing that she was allegedly linked to the suspected corruption surrounding the governance of the government's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

"In my view, it was the right decision. She was part of the circle surrounding the alleged corruption within the National Nutrition Agency itself," Krisna said.

Although he said he did not know the exact reason behind Nanik's resignation, Krisna claimed his client believed she had been involved in the case.

"What is certain is that, according to my client, Mrs Nanik was part of that circle," he said.

Krisna also revealed that, before Nanik stepped down, he had urged investigators at the Attorney General's Office to question her after several senior BGN officials were named as suspects. However, he said she had yet to be summoned.

"That is what we have continued to emphasise and request from the Attorney General's Office, so that this case can be fully clarified, based on the names that our client has disclosed to prosecutors," he added.

Nanik cites health reasons

Nanik S. Deyang resigned as head of the National Nutrition Agency, citing health reasons, after informing President Prabowo Subianto of her decision.

Her resignation was confirmed by the President's Special Assistant for Communications and Policy, Dirgayuza Setiawan.

"Today, 22 July 2026, Mrs Nanik Deyang informed President Prabowo that she would undergo heart treatment. She has also resigned as Head of the National Nutrition Agency," Dirgayuza said in a statement on Wednesday.
In a separate Facebook post, Nanik also announced her resignation and said she would travel abroad for medical treatment.

"With a heavy heart, I have informed the President that I will be travelling overseas for heart treatment. I am scheduled to depart today, Wednesday (22 July). This is not because I do not trust the excellent doctors in Indonesia, but because I would like to seek a second opinion, and a friend recommended the medical centre I intend to visit," she wrote.
