A Police Caught on Camera for Taking a Bribe: A Sack of Shallots

TheIndonesia.co - A police officer got caught on camera for taking an unusual bribe, a sack of shallots. The video of the incident was recorded and uploaded to Instagram by account @romansasopirtruck, Monday 1 November 2021.

The video shows the story of a truck driver who feels annoyed by a police officer who stopped his truck because of a traffic violation. Instead of getting a ticket for paying a fine, the police officer asked him to exchange the ticket with a sack of shallots, his truckload.

"I got a ticket but I was asked for a sack of shallots by the police," said the man whose voice is recorded in the video.

He showed the police officer who ticketed him. The officer puts the shallots on his black motorbike. "I offered him (money) one hundred thousand (rupiah), but he didn't want to. He asked for a sack of shallots," he said.

This incident took place in Tangerang, the outskirt of Jakarta. The reason for the violation is unclear. By the time this story was published, the video has had more than 54 thousand views. Some comments on the video asking for the police department to take any action against this corrupt policeman.
An official from Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Argo Wiyono confirms this incident happened in Greater Jakarta jurisdiction. The perpetrator is a police officer in Soekarno-Hatta Airport Resort Police. He is under investigation.

Road Traffic Director of Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo claims the perpetrator will be brought to justice. He urges the public to not be hesitant to file a report on police officers who conduct violations.
