TheIndonesia.co - Indonesia introduced the Indonesia Spices up the World (ISUTW) campaign during the National Day Expo 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Thursday, 4 October 2021, which seeks to promote the country’s rich spices and cuisine.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said as local spices have been recognized globally since centuries ago, Indonesia should make the best use of them and bring back its glory by increasing upstream and downstream productivity. The expo is seen as the perfect opportunity to promote and reintroduce the spices to the global market.
ISUTW is a national strategic program that aims to increase economic value in tourism, trade, and investment sectors through gastronomic industry. The program, which is coordinated by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, has been arranged since June 2020.
In general, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and all concerning ministries and state agencies set out the following pillars for the development of ISUTW campaign: spices and processed food, Indonesian restaurants, culinary promotions, and culinary destinations.
The government plans for the campaign to take place until 2024, and it’s expected to draw some economic activities and values into the country.
“Through these four pillars, we target the ISUTW to create 4,000 restaurants selling Indonesian cuisine abroad and an increase in the export value of prepared spices and simple spices to US$ 2 billion by 2024," Uno said.
