TheIndonesia.co - The land route to disaster-affected central areas of Aceh is now passable for vehicles, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced on Thursday.
BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Head, Abdul Muhari said access to the central region has reopened via the Simpang KKA Road, which connects North Aceh and Bener Meriah districts.
Several sections of the Simpang KKA route were damaged by landslides following heavy rainfall that hit Aceh in late November 2025.
Muhari said the restored land connection will speed up the movement of people and goods, including the distribution of humanitarian aid.
The reopened route will also facilitate the deployment of heavy equipment for post-disaster recovery, particularly to repair roads damaged by floods and landslides.
"Previously, relief supplies for central areas such as Bener Meriah and Central Aceh were delivered by aircraft and helicopters. With land access restored, logistics distribution can be expanded," he said, as quoted by Antara.
Meanwhile, BNPB is accelerating the construction of two bailey bridges in Bireuen district.
One bridge will function as an alternative route linking Aceh's eastern coastal areas, including North Aceh, Lhokseumawe and Aceh Tamiang, while the other will serve as the main access route to the east coast. Construction progress has reached 60 percent.
