TheIndonesia.co - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned people in West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, of potential strong winds that could lead to forest and land fires on August 19-21.
Komodo Meteorology Station issued a warning on Friday, August 19, and asked people in the regency to anticipate fires triggered by gusty winds in the next three days.
“Beware of strong wind potential in the next three days and anticipate forest and land fires in lowland areas,” head of the station Sti Nenotek said, as reported by Antara.
These lowland areas include Komodo, South Lembor, Lembor, Boleng, and Macang Pacar. The strong wind potential is reportedly related to the Australian monsoon.
Nenotek warned people against burning areas or doing activities that may trigger fires. Farmers are also urged to refrain from opening and clearing land by employing burning method.
The El Tari Kupang Meteorology Station also issued early warning of forest and land fires for all areas in NTT.
