TheIndonesia.co - During the recent Eid al-Fitr holidays from March 31 to April 2, 2025, the Seribu Islands, also known as the Thousand Islands or Kepulauan Seribu, became a top tourist destination for many Jakarta residents. A total of 14,485 visitors made their way to these picturesque islands, which are located just a short sail away from the capital city, offering a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

According to Antara News Agency, Sonti Pangaribuan, the Head of the Seribu Islands Tourism and Creative Economy Office explained the islands witnessed a surge in tourist numbers over the holiday period. The number of visitors rose sharply from the 2,565 people who arrived on Monday to the 4,627 on Tuesday, culminating in 7,293 on Wednesday. This significant increase compared to normal days, when the islands typically welcome 500 to 1,000 visitors, highlights the growing popularity of the Seribu Islands as a vacation spot.

The islands are accessible through four main piers: Muara Angke Pier, Marina Ancol, Tanjung Pasir, and Cituis Pier. Tourists have the option of taking either traditional boats or faster ferries, depending on their preferences and budget. Traditional boat fares from Muara Angke Pier range from Rp50,000 to Rp80,000, while those opting for faster ferries from Marina Ancol Pier can expect to pay between Rp175,000 and Rp300,000. The faster boats are a popular choice for those looking for a quicker route to their island destinations.

Among the most sought-after islands in the Seribu Islands are Pulau Bidadari, Pulau Pramuka, and Pulau Untung Jawa. These islands are perfect for those who enjoy sailing and exploring new places while remaining within Jakarta’s vicinity. Pulau Bidadari, known for its historical lighthouse and clear waters, is a favorite among history enthusiasts and beach lovers alike. Pulau Pramuka, the largest inhabited island in the group, is home to a vibrant local community and offers plenty of activities such as snorkeling, diving, and fishing. Meanwhile, Pulau Untung Jawa is a tranquil escape, perfect for those seeking peace and quiet away from the city.
