A Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) unit in Central Kalimantan has successfully evacuated a 25-year-old orangutan that previously entered plantation area within the province.
International Orangutan Day has been established to encourage communities to take action to conserve this species.
The animal was shot with an anaesthetic before it was evacuated from the plantation area.
After receiving reports from locals about an orangutan trapped within the plantation area, an evacuation team was quickly deployed.
