TheIndonesia.co - Dozens of dogs running around the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura) in Pemogan Village, South Denpasar District, Bali. The dogs roam the area that is a mangrove showcase.
Even though they look feral, the dogs are well-groomed and healthy. There is somebody who takes care and comes every day to look after them. She is Dewi Wulansari (40 years).
Dewi who lives in Kuta, Badung, Bali, always allocates time to visit the area where the stray dogs are every day. She feeds the dog and gives them anti-flea drugs and vitamins.
"There are a total of about 22 dogs here, in Kuta 1 dog and in Seminyak near my house 8 dogs," she said one day on December 2021.
The dogs' breeds range from local Balinese dogs to purebred dogs. Forest Park, she said, is a place for people to dispose of their pet dogs. Three years ago she heard a story about a broken leg puppy that was left stranded in Forest Park. She came to help and she found out there were other feral dogs that need her attention.
There were many other dogs in a worrying condition. Their body looks thin and unkempt. "Many dogs here are not cared for. Then we took care of them. The story is that many people throw away their dogs here," he said.
She spends around Rp100,000 or USD7 a day. The other costs are for vitamins, flea medication, and medical treatment such as sterilizing dogs. She admitted that she was moved to take care of this stray dog out.
In Bali, she said, many stray dogs are in a worrying condition. They can be found on roads and tourist attractions. The number keeps growing as many foreign nationals return to their countries due to Covid-19. Their dogs were left stranded.
"If you walk that way, it's very easy to see stray dogs that are sick and thin. There are lots of them, especially in Kedonganan and Jimbaran," Dewi who works at a villa in Badung, Bali.
She hopes that dog owners will continue to take care of their dogs. Please don't throw it away when you're bored.
