TheIndonesia.co - The Banjarnegara Regency Government in Central Java has expressed gratitude as Dieng Plateau has officially been designated a National Geopark. This recognition comes under the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 172.K/GL.01/MEM.G/2025.

“We’re thankful that Dieng has become one of Indonesia’s national geoparks. It’s a source of pride for all of us, and we hope it motivates us to continue preserving the environment, cultural heritage, and local traditions,” said Tursiman, Head of the Banjarnegara Tourism and Culture Office, on Tuesday, according to Antara News Agency.

He explained that Dieng Geopark stands out because it doesn't rely on a single feature. It encompasses geology, ecology, culture, and more. With this new status, Dieng is expected to attract even more visitors—not just for tourism, but also for its geological and ecological value.

Tursiman emphasized that Banjarnegara will work closely with Wonosobo Regency to promote Dieng's new status to the wider public. He called on all stakeholders to focus on preserving the plateau’s environment, conservation areas, ecology, and cultural sites.

He also acknowledged that horticulture remains a key livelihood for local residents and encouraged farmers to adopt environmentally-friendly practices as part of ongoing conservation efforts.

In regard to the frequent discovery of ancient temple ruins in Dieng, he hopes they can be restored to their original form and function, contributing to education and heritage preservation.
