TheIndonesia.co - Karimunjawa is reaching for the skies—literally. The inaugural Karimunjawa International Skydiving and Adventure (KISA) event, held at Dewadaru Airport on May 7th–11th, 2025, marked a spectacular leap into a new era of tourism for this hidden island gem in Central Java, Indonesia.
With breathtaking aerial views, white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters, the event successfully captured the attention of adventure enthusiasts worldwide.
According to Antara News Agency, KISA’s highlight event, the Boogie Woogie Jump, brought international skydivers together to experience Karimunjawa from a new perspective: 10,000 feet above ground. More than just a spectacle, the event served as a bold introduction to the island’s potential as a global skydiving destination.
The skydiving festival is only the beginning—KISA has committed to hosting regular skydiving activities throughout the year and even plans to establish a dedicated skydiving training center for both beginners and professionals.
Flying Into the Future
The success of KISA has sparked fresh momentum for reconnecting Karimunjawa by air. For years, travelers could only reach the island via sea routes from Kartini Port (Jepara) or Tanjung Emas Port (Semarang). But starting July 4, 2025, Susi Air will officially launch pioneer flights to Dewadaru Airport, making access to this island paradise faster and easier than ever.
Initial routes will include:
Yogyakarta ↔ Karimunjawa
Semarang ↔ Karimunjawa
Bali → Yogyakarta → Karimunjawa
Karimunjawa → Yogyakarta → Bali
These flights will operate three times a week—on Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays—catering to weekend travelers and holidaymakers alike.
The revitalization of Dewadaru Airport is backed by the regional government, with upgraded facilities including a new passenger terminal, emergency services, and partnerships with nearby hospitals for safety assurance during skydiving activities.
Karimunjawa: More Than Just a Beach Destination
With skydiving added to its growing list of adventures, Karimunjawa now offers a complete menu of island experiences: snorkeling, diving, island hopping, and now, adrenaline-packed jumps from the sky. The vision, according to KISA Chairman Capt. Muhammad Hariri, is to position Karimunjawa as a premier island destination with a blend of eco-tourism and extreme sports.
“Karimunjawa offers the perfect mix of stunning beach views and safe airport facilities. We want to bring that to the global stage,” said Hariri.
