TheIndonesia.co - Reports that dozens of men gathered at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) headquarters early on Thursday have drawn public attention as Indonesian authorities continue investigating several high-profile corruption cases.
Around 50 men arrived at the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) at approximately 3.30 a.m. local time. The outlet, citing unnamed sources, reported that the men, described as having military-style haircuts, travelled in eight private vehicles and gathered outside the investigation unit.
The reports emerged only hours after a joint police team carried out searches at locations linked to Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah, including a residence in Bogor and a café in South Jakarta.
Local media, citing anonymous sources, alleged that the group intended to retrieve an individual who was being questioned by investigators in connection with the corruption probe. Those claims have not been independently verified, and no official confirmation has been issued regarding the purpose of the gathering or the identities of those present.
Responding to the reports, Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto reiterated that investigators would continue carrying out their duties in accordance with the law.
The searches conducted earlier on Thursday form part of a wider investigation into alleged corruption involving several entities, including state-owned electricity company PT PLN, state insurer PT Asabri, and PT CBS. Police have said investigators seized financial documents and foreign currency during searches at a café in South Jakarta, while officers also searched a money changer as part of an alleged money laundering investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the evidence collected or the status of any suspects.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had not confirmed local media reports regarding the presence of the group at police headquarters or whether the incident affected the ongoing investigation. Likewise, there has been no official statement from the Indonesian military regarding the allegations reported by local media.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have yet to announce whether additional charges or arrests will follow.
