TheIndonesia.co - A total of 47 paragliding athletes from eight countries are confirmed to take part in the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup (PGAWC) at Sky Lancing Hill, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), from May 22nd to 25th, 2025.
“Initially, 109 participants from 17 countries registered, but only 47 confirmed from eight countries: China, France, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Indonesia as the host,” said Roy Rahmanto, Chairman of Sky Lancing Club and PGAWC 2025 organizer, at a press conference in Mataram, according to Antara News Agency.
Five participants received wild cards—two from NTB, two from Bali, and one from Central Sulawesi. This is the third year Sky Lancing is hosting the event, following successful tournaments in 2023 and 2024. This year, Lombok serves as the third stop in the global series, after Thailand and Turkey, and ahead of Germany and China.
The championship consists of up to eight rounds, judged by a panel, though the number may vary depending on weather conditions. Roy confirmed that the takeoff and landing zones, as well as all logistics and judging personnel, are 100% ready.
Meanwhile, NTB’s Deputy Chair of the Aero Sport Federation (FASI), Lt. Col. Burhanudin, emphasized the organization’s strong support for the growing aero sport scene in the region, noting its potential to develop both local talent and sports tourism. NTB alone has over 50 active aero sport athletes.
Sky Lancing Hill, the venue for the championship, is a scenic spot perfect not only for paragliding but also for travelers seeking natural beauty and adventure. Perched in the hills of Central Lombok, it offers breathtaking views of the coastline and rolling green landscapes—ideal for watching sunrises and sunsets.
Lombok is easily accessible from Bali and other major cities. Daily flights from Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya arrive at Lombok International Airport, just a 30–40-minute drive from Sky Lancing. For those who prefer a scenic route, fast boats and ferries from Padangbai Port in Bali take you to Lombok’s ports in under 2–3 hours, offering ocean views along the way.
After the event, visitors can unwind at Selong Belanak Beach, known for its white sands and gentle surf, or explore the traditional Sasak culture in Sade Village. With a wide range of accommodations—from cozy homestays to luxurious eco-resorts—PGAWC 2025 is not only a world-class sporting event but also the perfect excuse to explore Lombok’s charm.
